Orff Schulwerk is a philosopher of music education developed by Carl Orff, composer and teacher. Ear training, sight-singing, notation and rhythmic abilities are presented in a supportive musical environment where individual creativity is encouraged. Through rhythmic exercises, songs, games, stories and in playing age-appropriate instruments, students in the Orff class nurture the development of well-rounded musicianship. For students with no previous musical training, this class offers a wonderful introduction to music at a comfortable place.
Orff Level I(ages 5 through 7)
Strong emphasis on Music Appreciation and introduction to beginning music terminology through learning and doing. These introductory ideas are explored through movement, playing instruments, singing and listening. For students with no previous musical training, this class offers a wonderful introduction to music at a comfortable pace.
Orff Level II(ages 6 through 8)
Strong emphasis on the five elements of music; melody, harmony, rhythm, form and timbre. Students will experience these elements through movement, playing instruments, singing and listening.
Orff Level III (ages 7 through 9)
Strong emphasis on theory-oriented improvisation, composition and using barred instruments.
